Kiowa County Commission

The Kiowa County Commission is an elected board tasked by Kansas State Statute 19-212 to oversee the legislative and administrative powers of the county.  These duties include:
  1. Supervision of county property.
  2. Organization of townships following statutory procedures.
  3. Control of the financial affairs of the county.
  4. Approval of the annual budget.
  5. Levying of county taxes.
  6. Designation of depositories for the County Treasurer.
  7. Construction and maintenance of county roads and bridges.
  8. Approval of land use and zoning policies for the county.
  9. Issuance of bonds.
  10. Awarding of contracts.
  11. Incorporation of cities.
  12. Creation of special districts.
  13. Setting of salaries of all county officials.
  14. Providing a jail, courthouse, office space, and supplies for county offices and the district court.
  15. Appointment of members of various boards and commissions.
  16. Serve as the County Board of Canvassers for elections.

Office Hours

The County Commissioners do not maintain typical office hours.  Instead, the commission meets for three regularly scheduled meetings every month in the conference room at the Kiowa County Courthouse.  These meetings are held at 9:00a.m. on the first and third Mondays of every month and on the final business day of every month.  (If these days fall on a County holiday the meeting will take place the following business day.)   All meetings are open to the public, but if you have business you wish to discuss with the Commission please contact the County Clerk at 620-723-3366 to schedule your topic on an upcoming agenda.
